Week 4

Sorry I didn't get a second to post yesterday, but I did want to update everyone. Only one pound lost this week, but my bike just arrived today, and I bought a bike trailer Saturday night, so hopefully I'll be getting some exercise in this week!

music

So, I dusted off the old MP3 player, so that I could have some tunes for running. My kids: #1 tease me that I have a piece of crap Rio. I personally love the thing. It fits so nice in my running bra and if the song is not working for me, I just smash my boob and it changes songs! So awesome, huh?? #2 tease me about the music that is on it. " Don't stop me now" by Queen (actually the whole Queen album), "Bedroom eyes" by The Cars, "Dancin' with myself" by Billy Idol, etc...... You know, really fast paced runnin' tunes!
Now, why is it that every time I turn around, they are listening to my Rio instead of their awesome ipod's??? ( I guess that I am cooler than they think! ;0) !)

Newfound Motivation for Daily Exercise

Heart Disease in Women
Although many people think of heart disease as a man's problem, women can and do get heart disease. In fact, heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States. It is also a leading cause of disability among women.
The most common cause of heart disease is narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart itself. This is called coronary artery disease and happens slowly over time. It's the major reason people have heart attacks. Prevention is important: two-thirds of women who have a heart attack fail to make a full recovery.
The older a woman gets, the more likely she is to get heart disease. But women of all ages should be concerned about heart disease. All women can take steps to prevent it by practicing healthy lifestyle habits.

Paleo Week 3

Guys, I could hardly believe my eyes when I got on the scale this morning for my weekly weigh in. I've lost 4 more pounds this week! I was kind of a slacker this weekend as far as the diet went - I don't even know how many Peanut M&Ms I had Sunday night... :) But I was good the rest of the week!
I am very pleased with my progress, but still feel I am lacking exercise, so I will soon be purchasing a bike and a bike trailer for Clay to ride with me.
This is the bike I dream of:

It's an Electra Townie 7D. I love it in orange.
And here is the bike trailer I would love to buy:

It's a Croozer 525 Double bike trailer.
Too bad the Electra bike retails for $439 and the Croozer is a hefty $375. So, I will probably be buying a bike from KMart or WalMart and a bike trailer from KSL Classifieds. :)

Mourning....

Have you ever mourned for something that you have lost??? I was in mourning yesterday. Two years ago, on July 24th, I ran the 10k in the Deseret News marathon and 10k. How did I let this ability slip away in just 2 short years? How did I let myself get so busy that I forgot to take care of myself? Am I not important? I realize that I am that important. If I cannot be happy with myself, then how can I expect the people around me to be happy? I swear to you that I am going to get it back! I am going to get back more than I had! Maybe next year, I will run a half marathon and maybe even a marathon! Whoa, somebody stop me please! Yesterday, I went for a walk/run with Kendall and Buddy. (Kendall is my hubby and Buddy is my dog) Buddy was so excited at first, but we had to drag him along at the end. I surprised myself. We have this walkway that is circular, if you go around three times it is around a mile. I had a goal to run half way and the walk half way around it. Kendall, always wanting to one up me said; " I'm going to see if I can run all the way around it". What, are you crazy?? Guess what! I did it, and faster then Kendall! (twice!) It's coming back girls!

Oh my haul....

Look what I bought over the weekend. I keep it in my secret drawer that is not so secret anymore! I was thinking that it might help my sweet tooth. I had to get some of every kind. I could not find any cinnamon. (my favorite)

Fun fact that I found:

Believe it or not, you can actually burn some extra calories by chewing gum. "Besides being good for your breath--especially if you eat a lot of protein--researchers at the Mayo Clinic have found that chewing gum will burn an additional 11 calories per hour," says Dan Benardot, Ph.D., R.D.

Okay, it does not burn so much, but it burns enough to cover the 5 calories per piece of gum. Heck if you chew gum for 4 hours a day, you will burn a pound every 79 days! Can you say GOAL!!

Long time, no post...

Sorry that I have not posted in a awhile. I had a super busy weekend. I weighed in today at 161.7. I have lost almost 4 lbs! Yeah!! I was hoping for the 150's but I am sure that it will happen this week. I am having a visit from my "Aunt Flo" (I really do not like her!) and she always makes me gain weight! Hopefully she will only stay a few more days!
Today's Challenge: 10 minute walk/run. Make sure that you stretch good before you start. Walk on minute, run 1 minute ( Tip: It takes me one minute to sing the abc's song 3 times) and then repeat. Good luck all!

What's for Lunch

This is my favorite lunch lately. (Notice the bottled water? I'm getting better at the no soda thing!) I first had it at Disneyland at the Blue Bayou. It has spring greens, tomatoes, red pepper strips, spicy caramelized pecans and a roasted red pepper dressing. YUM! If you're interested in the recipes for the pecans or the dressing, let me know and I will post them.

SO SORE!

I just could not figure out why I am so sore. Now I know. The kids I watch having been begging to do the chicken dance (yesterdays challenge), so I put it on and did it with them. I now know what caused the aching muscles.

Goals

Sorry about the no post yesterday. I was super busy. Exercise yesterday included the chicken fat fiasco and a 45 minute walk/run with Kendall. I am still needing to really work on the diet. I have decided that the best way to keep me motivated is to make a goal. I have a goal to run a 5k. I don't know why I chose running. I hate every step. I do good at these goals though. I am pretty upset at myself that I have let this running (if you can call it that, maybe a slow jog) ability slip away. Two years ago, I ran three 5k's and one 10k. What happened? Busy and lazy I guess. I have decided to fun the following 5k:

2009 Turkey Trot 5K Run. The registration fee includes a race shirt. Shirt sizes will be given on a first come, first serve basis, while supply lasts. Register early! Awards will be given for first place overall male and female finishers as well as age division winners. There will be a prize drawing at the conclusion of each race. Location: Lone Peak Park - 10140 South 700 East Sandy Utah
11/07/2009 to 11/07/2009 Sat 9:00am-10:30am
$ 15.00

Okay, who is going to join me???

Okay, challenge for today, set a long term goal.

My Second Week

If you want to read about my first week check out the blogpost I did on my family blog last week.
Wednesday is my weigh-in day and I am psyched to say I lost 3 more pounds this week!
I finally started some exercise on Monday night. Clayton and I have been going on speed-strolls together in the evenings.
I even had two pieces of pizza on Monday night!
I am really enjoying the Paleo diet and am having a good time trying new recipes. Yesterday I had a marinated salmon salad - leafy green lettuce, some raw broccoli, cucumber, and some grapes and blueberries thrown in for sweetness. Then for dinner Jer grilled some chicken and I made a honey-mustard-curry glaze for it - sooo good! (I'll post the recipe for the glaze if anyone is interested.) We also had grilled tomato and steamed broccoli.
I'm loving reading everyone's posts on this blog. I'll be posting on Wednesdays from now on to let ya'll know how I did for the week. Keep up the good work everybody!

Kari's Challenge for the Day...

Okay, my turn to challenge everyone. Katelyn and Ryan love doing this everyday. For me, this was a nightmare song in elementary school...CHICKEN FAT!!!!

Click the link below to participate in today's challenge- including the push-ups! Heck- grab the whole family and use it for family Home Evening!

Tip

Just so ya know............combining these two ingredients are not such a good idea. If you do, you are really regular for a couple of days if you know what I mean!

Sore

I woke up today and feel like I have been hit by a bus. All of me is sore. I really tried to push it yesterday. I don't know if it was the gym routine or the stairs that did me in. Are any of you sore if you did the challenge?
Today, how about............your gonna hate me...........
Mountain Climbers: Start in a pushup position and bring one knee towards your chest. Touch the toe to the ground and then return your foot to the start position. Alternate sides. Keep your abs braced and your hips low. Get it??? Let's do 5 sets of 20. Good luck! :0)

A new week...

Welcome, welcome Monday morning, no more rest and lots of care.......It's a new week. Time to refocus and commit. How did everyone do over the weekend? Kendall made me fall off the wagon by making brownies. He is very naughty. I am going to do super good today to make up for that moist and gooey treat. I am not going to be able to get the exercise in until this evening, so I am going to focus on eating healthy today.
I was thinking of a challenge for us. I challenge everyone to "play" on the stairs for 5 minutes. Okay, not really play, but you know go up and down them. Hopefully everyone has some stairs that they can use. If not, just go back to the jump rope challenge. Maybe you could run up the stairs and then walk down. I suggest that you not fall down the stairs, but the choice is up to you. Remember to keep good posture and pull those abs in! (I have a very difficult time finding the abs, I think that they up and left my body!)
Update: So this evening I was able to do my regular. 20 minute elliptical, 20 minute bike, 20 minute treadmill and 120 abcoaster crunches. I was super stinky and sweaty when I was done and nobody wanted a hug! :0( Oh well, their loss....right?????

can't find a rope...

Hey, I told you I did my morning walk with Dolly, does that count?

Challenge

Don't you think that it would be a great idea to have a daily challenge? I do, so here you go.

I challenge everyone who reads this blog (you know who you are) to jump rope today for 5 minutes. For those of you who think that this will be easy smeazy mac and cheezy, you can go for 10 minutes. For those of you going phew, I don't have to do this challenge because I don't have a jump rope. Oh, you are so wrong, it turns out that you don't actually need a rope, you can pretend! The rope will probably just mess up your coordination anyway. So, if you feel you need something in your hand and you don't have a rope, grab something that you can hold in your hand. You determine how heavy, this is resistance training. You could grab something like 2 king size candy bars (wait, that might be a bad idea), milk jugs, hand weights, water bottles......etc......you are smart, think of something! If you can't do the 5 minutes in a row, do it for like a minute....rest....minute....rest. If you can go for 5 minutes, do the 10. (If you can do the 10, you stink! I mean good job!)

Oh, one last word of caution! For those of you blessed in the upper torso region, remember to secure the girls, we don't want any black eyes! And, for those you that have had newborn size object pass thru your pelvis, don't for get to....go...(you know what I mean) or wear proper protection....before you try this challenge!

Good luck!!

My Day

One of the biggest problems I have is my work schedule. I have to be in by 4:45 (that's a.m.). Having a family to take care of means that I am usually the last in bed and that I don't get enough sleep. My body is so messed up, 3 hours sleep here- four the next night THEN when I get a day off I'm so tired that all I want to do is sleep. I find I drag myself out of bed on my day off about 09:59 to 10:30.

On days I work, I rely way too much on diet coke to keep me awake- way bad I know! I'm trying to kick the diet soda/caffeine habit right now- easier said then done, especially when my sweet husband thinks he's treating me by bringing me home a soda. It's really hard to discourage any sweet gesture from him (sometimes it's dark chocolate! Maybe he likes me pudgy around the middle!!???!!)

Anyway, my goal today is to drink water and to take the stairs instead of the elevator when possible. I say when possible because occasionally I have an armload of supplies and stairs are not the safe choice...

Baby steps...

P.S. I'm afraid to look at the scale for fear I'll stop eating all together. : )

Yes, you heard right...

This morning I was up at 6 a.m. I know hard to believe seeing that Kendall is still at scout camp and I had nobody to wake me up! Am I (gasp) turning into a morning person? Nah, it isn't gonna happen! (I hope not at least!) Well, what's a girl to do that early in the morning? I decided to get down to my gym. I have to tell you that the single bestest (is that even a word? its early remember!) thing about my gym is that I do not have to watch sports center. When I had a gym membership that was the thing that I dreaded the most. I was there for about 2 hours and the only thing that they showed on the tvs were sports or espn. Come on! Who wants to watch that? As if exercising is not torture enough! So what have I done so far today? Everyone is going to be so proud of me. Today I have elliptical for 20 minutes, bike for 20 minutes, treadmill for 20 minutes ( I even ran for 4 of those minutes!) and 120 abcoaster crunches. And I did it whilest watching house hunters, 3 episodes, no commericals. (gotta love the dvr!) Plus, I have drank 16 ounces of water. Hopefully I can stay on calorie track today! I want to hit the 150's some time next week! What is everyone else up to???

What the.....

Oh my HE-double-hockey-sticks! 165.3! I cannot believe that I just posted that number on a public blog! It has to be wrong! My drivers license says that I only weigh 135. Denial! How in the world did I let myself get this "scale challenged"? I was not receiving any comments from the family like: Wow, do you really think that you need to eat the whole box of zingers! or Hey mom, maybe you should try hydroxicut! As you can see, this is as much their fault as it is mine! This number I pledge will only go down!

**** This blog is like Las Vegas.......... right? What is seen on this blog, stays on this blog!****

Here we go!

I am starting this blog to help me lose it! I mean, I have already technically lost my mind, but this is about weight loss. I am inviting my friends to join me so we can encourage each other. Post me a comment and I will add you so you can make post too!

My plan is to: Keep a daily food and exercise journal. Drink lots of water! Exercise at least 1 hour a day, 5 times per week. I am going to try and keep my daily calorie intake to 1600 per day.

Good plan huh! Let's hope that I can do it!
****NOTE: So, it turns out that I actually need you email address to add. Please send me your email, if you don't want to post it here, then send it to my email address at kmdaam@msn.com *****
